Just a quick routine appointment (these are so boring). I've gained a total of 15lbs which according to my doctor isn't bad but it's a little behind where I should be for twins. I don't know what else I can do I feel like I eat all the time. Oh, well she wasn't overly concerned about it.
My uterus is above my belly button which explains why breathing and even talking is difficult. I get out of breath so easily, it's embarrassing. I'm not used to short distances and even saying more than a few sentences at a time being difficult.
She explained a little more about the little girl's umbilical cord issue. Basically it's what I already knew, it can indicate a problem and they're just going to watch her and make sure she's growing, if she doesn't then bed-rest and no work will be the protocol to see if it helps. Hopefully though there's nothing to worry about and all will be well.
I got to see the babies again and they were wiggling all over like crazy, the little boy really likes to show off that he's a boy which Marcus finds hilarious.
I did in fact have a UTI so I'm glad I went in when I did last week and started the antibiotics and then that was it. I'll see them again in another 4 weeks.

Unplanned Dr. visit today...
My aunt after reading about the cramping and back pain I had a few days ago asked if I thought I could possibly have a UTI. I've never had one before but the thought that I may have a bladder infection did enter my mind for several other reasons so I decided to email my doctor to see what they thought, and what they thought is that I should be seen. Great...
This was probably one of the most awkward appointments I've ever had. Prior to my appointment I had a class downtown with a guest lecturer which lasted 2.5 hours and after it was over I HAD to go to the bathroom. I knew that the doctor would want a urine sample but since it was only 3:40 and my appointment wasn't until 4:00 I figured it would be no problem. Wrong, when I arrived at the doctor at 3:45 I was immediately called back. Apparently a snow storm is enough to clear out a doctor's office and I was their sole patient fastest response ever, which normally would be great but not to great when they want a urine sample and I had none to give. Which then just seemed to annoy everyone and this appointment turned into Pee Watch 2009. Everyone was just standing around waiting for me to use the bathroom.
To waste time they took my weight, and I'm now up a total of 13 pounds. We looked at the babies they were jumping around like crazy, and I proceeded to drink 3 bottles of water in about 2 mins (I'm not kidding). Then we all continued to wait. FInally, all that was taken care of and the doctor had me start an antibiotic in the meantime. She would rather I start the antibiotic now and if the culture comes back negative stop, rather than risk the alternative.
Overall, it was just awkward.

Really Prompt...
haha it took them four weeks to get me the blood test results from the NT scan and today they sent an email with the AFP results after only two days. I like the promptness better. Everything looks good so far!

First trimester blood test results
Maybe the doctor sensed my annoyance this morning, she sent me this email this afternoon:
Sounds good enough for me I guess although I wonder what the "in at least one twin" means.

The result of the first trimester test has been scanned. The risk for Downs syndrome in at least one twin is 1:1900; the risk for trisomy 18 is 1: 10,000. These are very low risks-normal results. I will write again when I have the result of today's test. Let me know if you have any questions.
Sounds good enough for me I guess although I wonder what the "in at least one twin" means.
Dr. Appointment news...
Overall it was a fairly boring appointment but they did manage to annoy me on several different occasions. At my doctor they make you arrive 15 minutes early so you can go in the back and get weighed, blood pressure, and tell them why you're at the appointment. This is all fine but for once I would really love if they would at least glance at my chart.
When the nurse asked me why I was there I just said for a routine pregnancy appointment. Her next question to me, "Have you done a urine test with the lab and was it positive?" I was a little confused as to what they were testing for, then it dawned on me she wanted to know if I had my pregnancy confirmed. Good lord. I'm over 15 weeks pregnant, I've seen this doctor at least 3 times, and I've had 6 ultrasounds. Open the chart and have a little look.
All I said was yes several months ago we're a little beyond that now. Then the doctor I usually see wasn't there today, which is fine, but nobody told me that. I saw a random mid-wife I've never met before, which again is fine I guess, but I prefer my regular doctor and I hope they don't think they can just switch me.
The final annoying piece is we're still waiting on the blood test results from our NT scan. We had the scan almost 4 weeks ago and still no blood test results (apparently they have them somewhere and they're normal) thanks that's helpful, but I want the actual numbers.
So I was annoyed for most of it. As far as weight gain I've gained a total of 5 pounds, 3 pounds since my last appointment five weeks ago, which doesn't seem like enough for me. In everything I've read they say that in twin pregnancies the gain should be more. However, the midwife seemed unconcerned. She also said my uterus was growing appropriately so I guess whatever. I'll keep attempting to eat and hope for the best.
We had a quick ultrasound to check on the babies and they're both doing well, jumping and moving all over. It's so weird how much they're moving and I can't feel any of it yet. Sometimes I pay extra attention just to see if I'm missing anything but so far nothing, hopefully in the next few weeks I'll be able to feel something. I also had my blood drawn today to check for Spina Bifida and other such problems. Wonder if we'll ever get those results. And then it was over. Marcus seemed kind of disappointed. I'm not sure what he expects at these things (and frankly I have no idea what to expect either), but he just looked at me and said, "That's all?"
We go to the a maternal medicine specialist person in about 2 weeks to check my cervical length and also to have the anatomy scan. So if they cooperate we'll know what we're having soon, and I'll see my doctor again in another 4. Very random appointment (and I missed my first class of the semester).

Itchy Skin... **update**
My skin is out of control. My stomach, back, and legs itch non-stop and they have for a couple of weeks now. At first I didn't pay much attention to it or even connect it to the pregnancy but it's to a point where I can't stop itching my skin. I emailed my doctor to see if
a.) it is related to pregnancy,
b.) if it's something I should be concerned about
c.) how do I make it stop.
There's no noticeable rash, but I'm so uncomfortable all the time. Hopefully she'll get back to me quickly. (I did a quick google search on itching in pregnancy that was a bad idea, there are many scary things associated with itching). I'm just going to wait for the doctor.

The doctor not only emailed me back but called as well to tell me that I needed to come in for an appointment as soon as possible. I'm going today at 2:20 and they're going to determine if it's something serious. Damn it who knew that itchy skin could actually be a problem It's not in anything that I've read and I honestly didn't think I needed to tell the doctor sooner. Hopefully it's no big deal.

7 weeks /First OB appointment...
I keep waiting for an appointment when I leave feeling like everything is okay. *sigh* Overall the appointment was standard medical history, a bunch of forms, weight (123 still haven't gained anything), exam, tons of blood work, etc.
I caught my OB up to speed on the bleeding and the last ultrasound with the second baby measuring behind, so she decided to do another ultrasound. Both babies still have heartbeats but now both are measuring behind. The baby that was measuring 6w1d last week is now measuring 6w according to her machine. How is that even possible? And the second baby that was measuring 5w6d is now measuring 6w4d. They should both be 7 weeks.
What the hell? Now I'm really freaked out that something is wrong with both babies and there's nothing I can really do. I'm hoping it's just a matter of different machines. My OB's machine was older and she did say she was having a hard time getting a reading. I go in next friday on a better machine for another ultrasound but until then I guess I'll just continue to worry.
She also told me to cancel my appointment with the RE tomorrow, but part of me wants to go and see if she gets a different reading on the dates using her machine. Marcus is really worried and I feel so bad because there's nothing that can be done. I wish he would have been able to go to this appointment with me.
Right now I'm trying to be positive as of today both babies have heart beats... I'm trying to hold onto that.
