As part of our annual conference for my denomination of the things we do is called fixing the appointments. Since the bishop decides where we will serve from year to year, there's a formal recognition of church appointments at annual conference.
Today for the first time I was officially appointed as a pastor to a church. As part of it we do a laying on of hands, where those who care surround you with love, support, and prayer. I was rather surprised at how emotional I was as I stood surrounded by various people who have supported me in this journey. Surrounded and supported by people I've just met, and being prayed for by the bishop of our annual conference.
It was powerful. It's the first step in a realization of something I've spent over the last decade working towards. I finally get to be a pastor.
